FotoFest invites participation by all in the FotoFest Biennial 2020. We sincerely believe that the inclusion of Participating Spaces is critical to the success of the FotoFest Biennial.
This year’s FotoFest Biennial is scheduled to take place March 8–April 19, 2020. FotoFest’s central exhibition, lecture, and film programs for the FotoFest Biennial 2020, AFRICAN COSMOLOGIES – Photography, Time, and the Other, will focus on the artists of Africa and the African diaspora, the continent’s complex colonial histories, and post-colonial present. Rather than being broad and encyclopedic, the exhibition will focus on themes of liberty, rights, and representation. A wide range of photographic and moving image media will be included.
As always, Participating Spaces are free to show photography or lens-based work related to any theme or idea they like, and do not have to follow the FotoFest theme to participate. That said, should you choose to participate, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you about how your program can be conceptually aligned with the festival’s overarching curatorial thematic.
As a participating space, you’ll receive promotion from FotoFest via a dedicated exhibition page and listing within our new Biennial guide publication, a listing on our website, and continued visibility through our social media and email channels leading up to and during the Biennial.
FotoFest will continue to offer Participating Spaces and exhibiting artists the opportunity to share their portfolios at the Evening with the Artists events. FotoFest hosts three nights where over 150 artists from the Meeting Place - Portfolio Review show their portfolios to invited reviewers and the general public. We have set aside 10 tables each night for Participating Spaces. We will begin accepting requests for tables in January 2020.
