Join FotoFest on Saturday, November 9, from 1 to 3 PM for Family Day, a fun, educational, and hands-on program! In conjunction with its exhibition, Artist-run, Artist-organized, Family Day presents three unique activities for adults and kids: painting with spices, photography walks, and Spot the AI minigame.
Self-portrait with Spices
Inspired by La Mecha Contemporary artist Yashoda Latkar, create a portrait of yourself using spice-based paints. First, make a recipe consisting of spices that describe yourself. Next, use your recipe to determine which spice-based paints you need for your portrait. Finally, paint a self-portrait that represents you using spice-based paints. Take home the final artwork or share with a loved one!
Photo Walk
The Photo Walk takes inspiration from Throughline Collective artist Luisa Duarte. Using a camera, walk in and around Silver Street Studios to photograph objects, places, or scenes that seem out of place or stand out to you. Using a QR code, submit your best photos to FotoFest for a chance to have your images featured in a photomontage by Duarte.
Spot the AI Minigame
As artificial intelligence (AI) develops, it blends seamlessly into everyday life. Inspired by Omnigenesis Collective's exhibition Aperiophobia, the Spot the AI minigame tests your ability to identify which pictures and words were created or altered using generative AI technology.
This program is part of FotoFest's autumn 2024 exhibition, Artist-run, Artist-organized, featuring three discrete exhibitions by Texas-based artist groups La Mecha Contemporary, Omnigenesis Collective, and Throughline Collective.
Join FotoFest on November 16, from 12:30 to 3 PM, for a cooking performance and tour by Yashoda Latkar.
During the 12:30 to 1:30 PM performance, Latkar will infuse the space with the aromatic scents of spices while engaging visitors through communal cooking activities, fostering cultural exchange, and evoking a sense of nostalgia and connection to her roots.
Following the cooking performance at 2 PM, Latkar will guide guests through her work in La Mecha Contemporary's exhibition, Migrating Memories and the Spaces Between.
