Film Program: Chinatown

Friday, April 5 | 7 PM

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Brown Auditorium, 1001 Bissonnet Street
Tickets required.

Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson delivers one of his most celebrated performances in famed screenwriter Robert Towne's Oscar-winning masterpiece, Chinatown. Nicholson plays Jake Gittes, a private eye entangled in a web of deceit, family secrets, and corruption in sun-drenched Los Angeles. Faye Dunaway and John Huston are equally captivating in this classic neo-noir thriller, presented in dazzling 4K digital projection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Chinatown isn’t simply a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling but is a document of 1930s Los Angeles, grappling with a burgeoning water crisis that threatens its very future. Arrive on time to catch FotoFest Biennial 2024: Critical Geography artist Brad Temkin’s introduction to the film, where he will discuss the ongoing California water crisis by drawing parallels between infrastructure issues represented in his series Aqueduct (2021–22) and corruption scandals in Chinatown.

This screening is presented on the 50th anniversary of Chinatown courtesy of Paramount Pictures Corporation. Special thanks to Marian Luntz and Tracy Stephenson for their efforts in organizing this program.
