Panel Discussion: Jan Pohribný and Igor Malijevský with Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers Members

FotoFest presents an internationally broadcasted conversation between the curators of Fighting: Ukrainian War Photographers, Jan Pohribný and Igor Malijevský, and members of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. The group will discuss the images presented in the exhibition, the photographer’s work documenting the front line of the Russo-Ukraine War, and the current situation in Ukraine for citizens, journalists, and military members.

This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Questions for the Q&A portion of the program will be collected via Eventbrite upon registration. Zoom links will be sent at least 48 hours prior to the program date.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Igor Malijevský is a Prague-based poet, photographer, and writer. He studied theoretical physics as well as philosophy at Charles University, where he graduated in 1996. Since the mid-1990s he has devoted himself primarily to photography and writing. He has published four books of poetry and two collections of short stories, including Moon Above the Tagus River (2014) which is represented in the anthology Best European Fiction 2018 (Dalkey Archive Press, 2017). He co-established EKG, a well-known monthly literary cabaret in Prague, and regularly cooperates with Czech Radio. His black and white analog photographs have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Europe, the USA, China, South Korea, and other countries. He has published three photobooks including Signs of Lvov (2016), a book of poetic images from Lvov, Ukraine, accompanied by texts in Czech, Ukrainian, and English. He currently travels to Ukraine to document everyday life during the war. He is the recipient of two Czech Press Photo awards.

Jan Pohribný has worked as a freelance art photographer and teacher in Prague since 1986. In addition to his artistic work, he works as a designer, illustrator, photographer, writer, and teacher. Pohribný has been a member of the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic since 1990, and has served as its president since 2017. He is also a member of the board of the Federation of European Professional Photographers. He currently teaches at the Prague School of Creative Communication. Pohribný’s photographic work has been featured in over sixty international and regional solo exhibitions and over 150 thematic group exhibitions. His work resides in numerous prestigious collections including Prague City Gallery, Prague, La Mission de la Photographie, Paris, and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
