The deadline to submit your project to the FotoFest Biennial 2024 Participating Spaces program has passed.
FotoFest's Participating Spaces program highlights Houston-based artists, photographers, curators, and organizers who present lens-based exhibitions, events, and public programs in conjunction with our Biennial program. The Participating Spaces program includes independently organized exhibitions and projects held at venues city-wide, ranging from public parks and alternative art spaces to established galleries and major museums. These projects offer Houston-area audiences and international guests an opportunity to experience the incredible local organizers, artists, and venues that are dedicated to examining historical, cultural, and political issues through the presentation of photography and lens-based media.
Participating Spaces can show photography or lens-based work related to any theme or idea they like. They do not have to follow the FotoFest theme to participate. However, if you choose to participate, we welcome the opportunity to discuss how your program can be conceptually aligned with the festival's overarching curatorial thematic.
The FotoFest Biennial 2024 central exhibition, Critical Geography, expands upon traditional understandings of geography to include spatial realms that cannot be easily mapped or measured. The exhibition borrows its title from the sub-discipline of geography that questions and challenges power structures, inequality, and dominant ideologies shaping spatial patterns. Through the works of 30 international artists, Critical Geography examines how social, economic, and political forces influence space, place, and people’s lives.
As a Participating Space, you will receive promotion from FotoFest via a dedicated exhibition page and listing within our new Biennial guide publication, a listing on our website, and continued visibility through our social media and email channels leading up to and during the Biennial.
